How does it work, what to expect from the treatment and what costs are involved?
OrthoKeratology works by using a hard lens which gently reshaping the cornea while you sleep, but it does not do this by a pushing motion, but rather using fluid forces under the lens to apply a gentle pulling pressure, which shapes the cornea overnight.
This means to get the full effect, lenses must be worn every night to ensure the full treatment during the day. However this also means the treatment is completely reversible, by simply not wearing the lenses for a few nights.
Fees and Treatment schedule
After having a general consultation, and corneal topography, if you are suitable for OrthoKeratology, the fees are in the range $1500-$2000 depending on your prescription, this covers both your appointment and your first year lenses.
This initial cost often shocks people, however after this initial fee, there are very few ongoing costs. As lenses only need to be changed yearly, and solutions can be purchased in bulk. Our sums show that after a year or 2 the costs actually works out less than or similar to the cost of regular contact lenses, glasses and check ups.
“That seems like a lot, why is it so expensive?”
As when you are first fitted for a custom Orthokeatology lens, several appointments are required within the first few months. This ensures the treatment is progressing as expected, and includes any extra appointments or changes to the lens that are required as the corneal reshaping occurs. This also includes a 3 month warranty in the rare case there are any problems with the lenses.
Fantastic! This is exactly what I have been looking for!
